Most people who feel sick from watching or playing video games are feeling a sort of motion sickness. The result is nausea, dizziness, headaches and other symptoms. Technology today puts players almost literally into the game. Instead, the animation you see makes it seem like you are walking through the scene and you only see parts of your body, like an arm holding a weapon in front of you.
As the character moves and turns quickly, blurring simulates motion on-screen and that can make you feel sick to your stomach or dizzy and disoriented.
It's almost like he's rollerblading or something. Other FPS games, with tighter controls, don't really have that effect on me. Doom 3 is the only exception, but that can be chalked up to sloppy framerates, I think. I'm the same way - and it's inconsistent. Turning off the lights in the room seemed to help me a bit there, but mostly I just had to play it in short bursts. Just recently I stumbled upon a problem that i'd heard alot about but never thought it would affect me. I was also siting approximately feet from the TV. In one of the music sets it kept cutting to this camera angle which was basically a moving birds eye view.
It bothered me a bit, but I figured it was nothing and just kept playing. This scenario happened more times until I started feeling pretty weird. After a few minutes this feeling went away and my vision was perfect again. Needless to say I stopped playing immediately and started googling this for answers. While most people have had dizziness and vertigo with mostly combat based games, none were really dead on with what I had experienced.
I wanted to get some more opinions based specifically on my problem and hopefully many others can gain useful knowledge from your answers. Thanks so much in advance! Answer Question.
