Windows xp 64 bit on core i7

Most likely the fancy tools provided by the motherboard manufacturer to do things like monitoring or overclocking probably work on XP only. One reason you might not be able to install XP, according to the vendor, is that there might be some new hardware on the motherboard that does not have any XP drivers. Of course, that doesn't mean that XP will not run, just that those devices that lack drivers will not work. Personally, I would install Windows 7 bit.

Thanks Peter for the answer. Actually this question was not for me, I have Vista Home on my laptop. My uncle needs a new system. They have some sort of software which runs only on Windows XP. Their whole work depends on that software it controls their machines and its a heavy software but 4GB RAM is enough, it just needs faster processor. They currently have P4 3. They wanted to upgrade so they asked me as if I knew much about it.

Arun Dase. I just wanted to know that can we install Windows XP bit on a core i7 laptop or not. Currently the main software I use, Ableton Live, does not support 64 bit Vista. I am sure I can get by fine with a core 2 quad - I was just looking to future proof it for a little while by going i7. Mar 11, 0 18, 1. Dec 14, 0 18, 2. Feb 3, 0 18, 0. Ableton Live runs under 64 bit vista, but it is not officially supported. Don't listen to Apple, vista is a pretty good OS. I would get i7, write them an angry letter and use 32 bit XP or Vista until they get it fixed.

You could also run XP in a virtual machine or as dual boot. EDIT: Of course, virtual machine will give you crappy performance, which is probably not what you want. TwoDigital Distinguished. If he's running a production system for clients, though, you are kind of stuck with what your vendor will support I would recommend Vista 64 completely - except in my case I do have one instance of bit running for Media Center as some relatively common non-Microsoft codecs and extensions don't have bit versions yet.

Aug 21, 0 18, This way you can still run the app in the proper environment, and you can take advantage of the extra ram and current software with vista Jun 18, 7, 0 31, Do you see the contradiction in what you said? Why do you need a capable system if it's faster?

Why should anyone believe this? See, this is why I don't like Vista. You'll never constantly hear crazy claims from XP users. Yeah, cause we all know everyone in here is a professional heavy user of some type of intensive program. Oh wait, your using Vista, carry on then. PsyKhiqZero Splendid.

Jun 1, 3, 0 21, Believe it or not, vista 64 on a capable system is faster than XP is one the same system, even though vista on a low spec system is slower than xp. That's just how it works. Of course, you can keep mindlessly bashing Vista if you want, but it really doesn't achieve anything. As for crazy claims from XP users? I hear them all the time. Most have to do with how bad Vista supposedly is, even though they have probably never tried it on a capable system. Oct 12, 1, 0 19, 3.

Jun 9, 1, 0 19, The only possible issue would be if the motherboard's drivers do not support XP. So you can run XP bit on an i7 build. X Donate Contact us. New posts Trending Search forums. Jan 20, 42 0 18, 1. Jun 18, 7, 0 31, Yes, but why not get Windows 7? XP x64 is buggier than win7 x64, and it is an 8 year old OS. Maziar Champion. Jul 20, 21, 0 52, LePhuronn Distinguished. Apr 20, 1, 0 19, Apr 9, 1, 0 19, Dec 10, 6, 1 26, Dec 4, 4, 1 23, Yes it will work.

No, you should not do it. XP is dead, let it rest in peace. If you have a special app that will not work with anything but XP, get Win 7 Pro x64 or better and use the XP virtualization. Thanks for all the replies. I don't like Windows 7 because of the elimination of the "classic" start menu, and the elimination of "standard" font-smoothing.

I find the new start menu to be a cumbersome step backward, and despite my efforts to tune ClearType I cannot find a setting that does not leave screen text looking as if I have uncorrected astigmatism. If you dislike ClearType, turn it off. As for the elimination of the classic start menu, have you tried using the new one for a while? I find it to be quite a bit better once you get used to it.
